While most content deals with the history and manufacturers of the reel to reel tape recorder, or tape deck, we cover many aspects of magnetic recording.

Phantom Productions, Inc. offers a seven hour video set about our collection and the history of magnetic recording available at this link. You can purchase the seven hours of files via download.

We provide 48 hours during which to download the files. After that the file access will expire. Once the files are downloaded they are yours to keep personally. The videos may NOT be re-distributed, posted on line, nor re-sold. If you have a problem downloading the files, please let us know.

Photos owned by our private collection are available for sale. High resolution requests require a deposit.

This is a non-commercial website generating no income, created for educational and magnetic recording historical purposes. Photos taken by us appear under our copyright and may not be used without permission. We will sell some of our own photos for use in external projects. Please contact us for more information. Most images that are not ours, have been submitted by third parties to provide more historical perspective. Other then those listed in our contributor list, or noted with a photo, we do not retain a donor's information. If you copy a photo from our site you do so at your own risk. As stated in other parts of this site "We appreciate all photos sent to our museum. We hope to successfully preserve the sound recording history. If we have not credited a photo, we do not know its origin if it was not taken by the contributor. Please let us know if a photo on our site belongs to you and is not credited. We will be happy to give you credit, or remove it if you so choose.

Please note: We do not provide copies of ads, nor photos from third party resources. Third party photos are credited to the source. We regularly receive content that includes no known source. However if it adds historical magnetic sound recording value, which is our goal, it may be added. If there is content that is is not properly credited, we encourage folks to notify us. We will ensure proper credit is included in our web page, or it will be removed if so requested.

The non-profit Museum of Magnetic Sound Recording established in 2012 to create a permanent public museum was dissolved December 31, 2017 due to lack of funding. This collection has now reverted back to a private collection which retained the name Museum of Magnetic Sound Recording and belongs to the Theophilus family who began the collection in 1999. All but a few of the reel tape recorders, microphones and memorabilia in this collection were originally purchased by the Theophilus family. When the non-profit Museum of Magnetic Sound Recording dissolved, the Theophilus family purchased (at FMV) several of the tape recorders that were donated to the non-profit. These were units that we wanted to preserve.
